Birds can be found throughout the United States including New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Although some species of birds are protected, the ones listed below are not and are therefore considered to be a pest. They include common pigeons such as the rock pigeon, House Sparrows are considered to be an invasive species and European Starlings.

Common Pigeons vary in length from 5.9″ to 29″ long and weigh up to 4lbs. Pigeons have been able to prosper from the many human activities and inventions such as tall buildings and houses which they can build nests to raise their young. Pigeons have survived while other bird species have declined or have succumb to extinction.

House Sparrows are small bird that is about 6in tall and weigh about 1.40oz. They prefer to live in urban or rural areas and are strongly associated with human habitats. Females are pale brown and grey and the males have black, white and brown markings.

European Starlings are not migratory birds and like to nest in pipes, eaves and gutters around residential properties. They prefer to nest in tool sheds and closed garages so it is important to keep these spaces closed and sealed to prevent an infestation.
